CHEER TRYOUT REQUIREMENTS

JUMPS:
-3 advanced jumps, consecutive
-1 Double toe touch

TUMBLING:
-tumbling is not required, but recommended.  each participant will have the opportunity to perform both running and standing tumbling.  Mats will be provided.

STUNTS:
-Each participant will perform two stunts, either with current team members or you can bring a stunt group from your previous team.
-Each participant can choose their own stunts they perform.  Please choose stunts that will highlight your talent.
-Each participant can tryout in the flyer position or the base position.  You can also choose to do one stunt as a base and one as the flyer if you have experience in both positions.


CHEER:
-Individual cheer with a required toe touch jump.
-1 sideline chant

DANCE:
- consisting of 6 to 8 eight counts.

SCORING:
All participants will be evaluated on their skills by the Lewis cheer team coaching staff and outside judges.  Outside judges will consist of qualified cheer tryout judges as well as one university representative.  Participants will be scored by the following scale:
Jumps                              0 to 10
Tumbling                          0 to 10
Stunts                              0 to 10
Motion Technique               0 to 10
Dance                               0 to 10
Voice/Facials                     0 to 10
Interview                          0 to 10

DETAILS:
There will be a clinic held the week before the tryouts.  There, you will learn all materials you need for the tryout.  We will hold a Mock Tryout so all will understand the procedure.  The tryout will be held on the last evening of the clinic.  All skills will be presented in groups of three or less, except for the individual cheer and interview.  All participants will be scored and evaluated.  Team selection will be posted on campus and on the web site no later than 24 hours after the tryout.  There is a maximum of 20 team positions and 1 mascot position.  

Requirements for the mascot position will be explained by the cheer coach.  A skit must be performed at tryouts, with or without music.  Experience is not required.  Please email the coaches for more details.
