Tryout Requirements

**ATTENTION ALL INCOMING STUDENTS INTERESTED IN LEWIS CHEER**

We will be hosting OPEN PRACTICES for interested cheerleaders to come and visit a practice and learn more about tryouts and our program.  The dates are: 2/8, 2/11, 2/22, 2/25, 3/8 and 3/11.  The times are 7-8:30 pm on these dates.  To attend, please use the EMAIL page and the coaching staff will get back to you with a confirmation.  When emailing, please include the full name of all attending, your current school, and semester you plan to attend Lewis University.  A photo ID will be required for an on campus visit.

JUMPS:

-3 advanced jumps, consecutive

-1 Double toe touch

 

TUMBLING:

-Tumbling is not required, but recommended.  Each participant will have the opportunity to perform both running and standing tumbling.  Mats will be provided.

 

STUNTS:

-Each participant will perform two stunts, either with current team members or you can bring a stunt group from your previous team.

-Each participant can choose their own stunts they perform.  Please choose stunts that will highlight your talent.

-Each participant can tryout in the flyer position or the base position.  You can also choose to do one stunt as a base and one as the flyer if you have experience in both positions.

 

CHEER:

-Individual cheer with a required toe touch jump.

 

DANCE/FIGHT SONG:

- consisting of 6 to 8 eight counts.

 

SCORING:

All participants will be evaluated on their skills by the Lewis cheer team coaching staff and outside judges.  Outside judges will consist of qualified cheer tryout judges as well as one university representative.  Participants will be scored 0 to 10 in the following categories: Clinic Evaluation, Jumps, Tumbling, Stunts, Motion Technique, Dance, Collegiate Appearance, and Interview.

 

DETAILS:

There will be a clinic held on Saturday from 9 am-4 pm and Sunday from 12-2 pm.  There, you will learn all materials you need for the tryout, plus get time to prepare your stunts and tumbling.  You will be evaluated by the coaches during the clinic.  The tryout will be held on the next day, Sunday, from 2-5 pm.  All skills will be presented in groups of three or less, except for the individual cheer and interview.  All participants will be scored and evaluated.  Team selection will be posted on the web site no later than 24 hours after the tryout.  There is a maximum of 22 team positions.  If you are unable to attend the clinic, the coaching staff will allow you to submit a video of your skills.  The video must be received no later than April 22nd.  Please email the coaches to get more details about what to include in the video if you cannot make the tryout.

 

Lewis University does have a mascot position available.  Experience is not required.  Please email the coaches for more details.
